Frossenmark is the northernmost country of Aarden.
Having no real central government or leadership, the country is split into clans of semi-civilized, yet oft warring people. The closest they have to a King is the High Prince, a title mostly earned through having the strongest clan and wealthiest lands. It can be taken or given to another at any point, but the current High Prince, Eirik, has sat in this position for the last 15 years. A feat that has occurred only a handful of times in written history. He has generated enough power that even a couple of the other clans have joined with him, (giving up all clan names, rights, and customs) to create a stronger, more peaceful, and more civilized way of life.
Frossenmark is not all frozen wasteland, and indeed it holds some of the most beautiful and lush vistas that Aarden has to offer. Streams and rivers from the towering mountains divide the landscape, giving water and food to the hundreds of species that thrive in the lowerlands of Frossenmark. Enormous trees have grown undisturbed for centuries, the local fauna flourishes, and the land formations created by nature are among the most majestic and raw of Aarden.
Of course, all of this makes the wilds of Frossenmark extremely dangerous. It is nature at its most raw, and nature is an unforgiving force. Home to not only humans, the land, as well as its denizens, are a hazard to any would-be adventurer that attempts to cross its expanse.
